Behind the Grain

Nestled in the heart of the North Cascades...

Baker River Woodworks is a custom woodworking studio based in Concrete, Washington, specializing in handcrafted furniture, live-edge countertops, mantels, home decor, and locally sourced slabs. Founder and craftsman John Burmaster has been creating pieces that reflect the raw beauty of the Pacific Northwest—each one thoughtfully designed and built to endure.

Founded in 1995...

Baker River Woodworks started out in John’s basement in Darrington, WA, where he still maintains his saw mill and drying area. In 2004 he bought and moved into the current location on Main Street in Concrete, WA. John's passion for woodworking is rooted in a lifelong belief that good design should be both beautiful and functional.

His work begins with...

Carefully selected hardwoods—often milled and dried right in his backyard. Every slab tells a story, and he aims to preserve that narrative by highlighting each wood’s natural grain, texture, and edge. Whether you're looking for a custom dining table, a one-of-a-kind countertop, or reclaimed materials for your project, Baker River Woodworks brings a deep respect for the material and a dedication to craftsmanship that you can see and feel.

Baker River Wood Works transforms raw wood into lasting functional art.
